How To Make Crispy Cabbage Fritters
Fritters are a beloved dish, and there are many types of them, with the most popular being potato latkes that everyone knows. This page was created after I attempted to replace the potatoes with cabbage.
And that’s exactly how my golden cabbage fritters were born – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a sweet and delicate taste, each bite feels like a hug. Whether you’re looking for a solution for cabbage that’s been sitting in the fridge, a light vegetarian dish, or just hungry for something tasty – this recipe is for you.
Ingredients (for about 12 fritters):
- 1/2 small cabbage (about 500 grams), finely chopped into strips
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup flour (regular flour or potato flour for a gluten-free version)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Oil for frying Optional:
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 grated carrot
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
- A pinch of cumin or hot paprika
Instructions:
- Prepare the cabbage – Slice it very finely (almost like for a salad), place it in a bowl, and add the salt. Let it rest for 10 minutes, then squeeze out any excess moisture.
- Mix – Add the eggs, flour, spices, and any other optional additions that you like.
- Shape fritters – Heat a pan with a little oil, form fritters with a spoon, and flatten them slightly. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden.
- Serve with love – Remove the fritters onto paper towels and serve hot with yogurt, tahini, or even cottage cheese.
Small Tip:
While making the fritters, I make sure to use just a little oil – you can also bake them! Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake for about 20 minutes on each side – they come out tasty and healthy.
