How to Make Garlic Spread at Home

Garlic Spread

Garlic spread is a wonderful addition that pairs well with any meal – as a spread on bread, alongside fish, vegetables, or as a filling for pastries. It’s a flavorful spread that adds a special presence to any dish, and the recipe is simple and quick to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • Peeled garlic cloves – 4-5 cloves
  • Olive oil – as needed
  • Lemon juice – to taste
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Chopped parsley (optional) – 1 tablespoon

How to Make Garlic Spread:

Prepare the garlic: There are different ways to prepare garlic spread. You can use fresh raw garlic, but I prefer using garlic that has undergone a pre-cooking process, such as garlic confit or roasted garlic. To make the spread, you’ll need peeled garlic cloves and a food processor. If the garlic has been prepared beforehand, it will be easier to work with and achieve the spreadable texture, even without a food processor.

Add the oil: Add a little oil or olive oil to the mixture or the food processor. The oil will help achieve the spreadable texture and also add flavor. You can mix between two types of oil, but it’s best to start with a little and add more if necessary.

Blend: Process the garlic and oil until the texture is smooth. If the spread is too dry, you can add more olive oil or a little water to achieve the desired consistency.

Add flavor: Add lemon juice and salt to taste. It’s recommended to taste and adjust the seasoning until the flavors are balanced. If you like, you can add chopped parsley for color and freshness.

Tips for Proper Preparation:

  • Add the oil gradually while blending to control the texture.
  • You can upgrade the spread with additional spices such as cumin, mustard, or spicy seasonings based on personal preference.

Additions and Upgrades:

  • Grated Parmesan cheese: Adds richness and saltiness.
  • A bit of chili pepper: For those who like it spicy, you can add a small green chili pepper.
  • Oregano or dried spices: For an additional flavor boost.

How to Store the Spread

Garlic spread keeps well in the fridge and actually improves over time. It’s best stored in an airtight container, and if the spread starts to dry out, you can add a little more olive oil to restore its moisture.

Good luck and enjoy!
