How to Make Sweet Potato Antipasti

Sweet Potato Antipasti

Sweet potato antipasti is a versatile side dish that pairs wonderfully with both meat and dairy dishes. The natural sweetness of sweet potatoes adds a new layer of flavor and provides plenty of nutritional benefits. This dish can be prepared in almost any home kitchen using an oven, grill, or another heat source. It’s easy to make and can be stored in the fridge for future use or enjoyed immediately.

Ingredients:

  • Sweet potatoes: Quantity as needed
  • Cooking oil: As required
  • Olive oil: For added flavor
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper: To taste

Preparation Steps

1. Cutting the Sweet Potatoes

You can slice sweet potatoes into different shapes and sizes, but it’s best to keep them uniform for even cooking. Larger pieces will require a longer baking time. You can peel the sweet potatoes or leave the skin on—it’s entirely up to you. If keeping the skin, make sure to wash them thoroughly to remove dirt and impurities.

2. Seasoning

  1. Place the sweet potato slices in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add oil—start with cooking oil, then drizzle some olive oil for extra flavor.
  3. Sprinkle it with coarse salt, freshly ground black pepper, and your choice of herbs.
  4. Toss everything together until the sweet potatoes are evenly coated.

3. Baking

  • Arrange the seasoned sweet potatoes on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender and slightly caramelized.
  • Use a wooden skewer to check doneness—the sweet potatoes are ready when the skewer pierces through easily.

Optional Additions and Upgrades

  • Add herbs like thyme, rosemary, or oregano for extra aroma.
  • Serve with yogurt or tzatziki for a refreshing contrast.

Storing Sweet Potato Antipasti

  • Let the antipasti cool before serving or storing.
  • Pack them with the parchment paper they were baked on for easy storage.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Before serving, let the antipasti sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes or reheat briefly in the oven or toaster oven.
