How to Make Hard-Boiled Eggs

Hard-boiled eggs play a big part in our breakfasts but are also used in a variety of other dishes like salads, pastries, and more. They can be prepared using different cooking methods as well.

To make hard-boiled eggs, you just need to place them in a pot with water and cook until they’re ready. It seems simple and almost foolproof, and in most cases, it won’t go wrong, and you’ll enjoy a warm hard-boiled egg.

To achieve different levels of doneness, the time from when the water boils is important. If you want the egg to remain a little runny inside, sometimes you’ll need to stop the cooking process by placing the eggs in cold water.

Ingredients:

Eggs – as needed
Water – as needed to cover the egg

How to Prepare Hard-Boiled Eggs:

  1. Place the desired number of eggs into a pot and cover them with cold tap water.
  2. Place the pot on heat and bring it to a boil.
  3. If you want a fully cooked egg, wait 4-5 minutes after the water starts boiling, then turn off the heat (depending on the egg size).

How to Make Soft-Boiled Eggs:

If you want a soft-boiled egg, wait 3-4 minutes after the water boils (depending on the egg size) then transfer it to a bowl of cold water or rinse it under cold running water. You can also peel it and use it at this stage.

Tips for Proper Preparation:

  • It’s recommended to peel the eggs under cold running water. The temperature change helps the shell separate from the egg without damaging it.
  • Sometimes, hard-boiled eggs don’t peel well and lose chunks during peeling. From personal experience, this has to do with the egg’s freshness. The older the egg, the thinner the shell, and that’s why this happens.
  • You can cool the eggs in the pot itself under running water by adding cold water, or you can remove the eggs with a tool and place them into cold water before continuing with the peeling.

Upgrades for Boiled Eggs:

  • Using a mandoline to slice hard-boiled eggs definitely enhances the experience.
  • You can serve the egg on toast (to be eaten with a knife and fork) to absorb the yolk as you eat.

Good luck! Enjoy your meal!
